Brief History Of Armoor Parish

Armoor, a promising commercial town situated in Nizamabad District, is on the Nagpur highway from Secunderabad. Seeing the future possibilities, Archbishop Marampudi Joji erected Armoor as a Quasi-Parish and appointed Fr. Gorantla Dhanraj as its first Priest In-charge. The Catechist Sisters of St. Ann had purchased some land in view of starting a School in this economically promising town. Accordingly St. Ann’s School was started on 21st June, 2004. The Archdiocese also acquired two acres of land and, through the mediation of Fr. Savarimuttu Devadoss SJ, the Parish Priest of Kissannagar and Catechist Sisters of St. Ann (CSA). Fr. Kommareddy Marreddy as Priest In-charge constructed Presbytery cum Hostel at Armoor Quasi- Parish and on 21st February, 2009 Archbishop Marampudi Joji blessed and inaugurated it. Fr. Madanu Isaac as Priest In-charge constructed Sacred Heart Hostel at Armoor Quasi-Parish and on 12th August, 2012 Msgr. Swarna Bernard, VG blessed and inaugurated it.

Fr. Bandanadam Prashanth as Priest In-charge took initiative to construct new Sacred Heart Church at Armoor Quasi-Parish. The foundation stone for Armoor Church was laid on 8th August, 2016 by Archbishop Thumma Bala. The work began in the month of September 2016 and finished construction by 30th June, 2017. The new Church was blessed and inaugurated by Archbishop Thumma Bala on 13th July, 2017. From then, they have regular Holy Eucharist in the Church, every day at 6:30 am in English and on Sunday’s at 8:30 am in Telugu. On 14th July, 2018 they celebrated the first annual feast. Priests, Religious and Faithful from all corners of Nizamabad Deanary came and took part in the celebration. From the evangelization point of view, it is small territory, since as of now the Catholics presence is 12 families including Sub-station. On 08th December, 2018 they also celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Sub-station Chepur.

In the Archdiocesan Consulters’ Body Meetings held on 12th June, 2020 and 14th July, 2020 a point was discussed with regard to raising Armoor Quasi-Parish to the status of a Parish and after due discussion the Archdiocesan Consulters’ Body in the light of Canon Law recommended that this matter be discussed further in the Priests’ Senate Body Meeting. Accordingly in the Priests’ Senate Body Meeting held on 06th August, 2020 it was discussed and after due discussion recommended the same. This recommendation of the Priests’ Senate Body was further discussed in the Archdiocesan Consulters’ Body Meeting held on 31st August, 2020 and after due discussion the Archdiocesan Consulters’ Body resolved to raise Armoor Quasi-Parish to the status of a Parish with effect from 08th December, 2020 on the Solemnity of Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the light of the above-mentioned matters Archbishop Thumma Bala, raised Armoor Quasi-Parish to the status of a Parish with effect from 08th December, 2020.
