Brief History of Nacharam Parish
On 08th June, 1997 Sacred Heart Parish, Lallaguda was bifurcated and St. Pius X, Nacharam was formally established as an independent Parish and entrusted to the Order of the Discalced Carmelites (OCD). The Parish had just 920 square yards of land to start with. Since there was no other place, all the Liturgical services were held in the Novitiate Chapel of the Catechist Sisters of St. Ann, Snehapuri Colony. This temporary arrangement continued for about three years with the goodwill of the Sisters. Fr. Xavier Thazhupil, OCD the first Parish Priest had a tough time, as he was all alone and had to build the community there at Nacharam.
Fr. Anthony Ambadan, OCD undertook the challenging task of constructing the Parish Church. Initially, he faced severe opposition from the locals, who did not want a Church, but gradually they came around. Paucity of funds was another major hurdle, due to which work proceeded at a very slow pace. Overcoming all these hurdles, the Church construction was completed in November 2007. It was blessed and inaugurated on 14th November, 2007 by Archbishop Marampudi Joji.
Men & Women Religious Congregations
Congregation Of Catechist Sisters Of St. Ann (CSA), Generalate At Tarnaka : Sisters established their Generalate at Nacharam in 1997 and later in 2002 it was shifted to Tarnaka. Mission of the Congregation is Evangelization and Catechesis, Education Ministry, Healing Ministry, Human Promotion and Empowerment (Social Service), Caring for the Aged. Ministries in the Parish are teaching catechism, Preparing Children and Adults for the Sacraments, visiting families, collaborating in Parish Activities.
Second Community Of Catechist Sisters Of St. Ann At Nacharam (CSA): : Sisters established St. Ann’s Formation House in 1972, St. Pious X Convent in 1993, St. Pious X Hostel for Women in 1993, St. Pious X Degree College in 1998, St. Pious X P.G. College in 1998 and St. Pious X MBA College in 2009 at Nacharam. Mission of CSA Congregation is Educational Apostolate. Ministries in the Parish are teaching catechism, preparing children for the Sacraments, visiting the sick, liturgical preparations, altar decoration and Pastoral Work.
