5th National March for Life - 8 & 9 August 2026

The 5th National March for Life was held this year in Chennai at Stella Maris College, hosted by the Archdiocese of Madras–Mylapore. The event brought together around 5,000 participants from across India with a common purpose: to raise awareness about the dignity and protection of human life and to ensure that the voice of the voiceless is heard—the unborn children who have lost their lives in the womb.

Representing the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, around eight young people participated in the event along with Fr. Jerome, Fr. Prabhudas, and Fr. Anthony. We were accommodated at the Pastoral Centre and arrived at the venue early in the morning to participate in the full-day programme.

Throughout the day, the venue was filled with various activities, exhibitions, awareness stalls, and T-shirt sales. There were groups explaining about abortion about the importance of protecting unborn life. These exhibitions provided an opportunity for young people and families to learn more about the pro-life movement and the need to create greater awareness in society. Under the main hall they hosted variety of programmes throughout the morning. Doctors, young people, and other speakers shared their experiences and spoke about the importance of creating awareness about abortion and promoting a culture that respects and protects human life.

Before the March began, there was a gathering of dignitaries, religious leaders, bishops, and representatives from different walks of life. Our own Cardinal Poola Anthony, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), was also present and addressed the gathering.

Following the gathering, the March for Life took place around the Stella Maris College campus. Thousands of participants walked together in solidarity, carrying banners and raising awareness about the importance of protecting human life from conception.

The March concluded with a beautiful Holy Mass, celebrated by Most Rev. Dr. George Antonysamy.  Archbishop of Madras–Mylapore, along with other bishops and priests. The celebration brought together all the participants in prayer and thanksgiving for the success of the event.

At the conclusion of the programme, the National March for Life banner was formally handed over to the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, as Hyderabad will host the 6th National March for Life next year.
